FAREWELL SOCIAL.
TO MR. AND MBS* A. J. GABBY. A very enjoyable social evening was tendered to Mr and Mrs A. J. Gariy by the members of the Paeroa butter factory staff and their friends last evening. The Soldiers’ Club accommodated some 50 people in all. Mr Geo. Buchanan, local director of the company, made the presentation on behalf of the employees of the factory. Mr Garry was presented with a solid leather bowls bag and. Mrs Garry with a beautiful Doulton salad bowl and service. Mr Buchanan, in a few well chosen words, spoke of Mr Garry’s many good qualities. Mr Garry had been close on three years manager of the local factory, and in all Mr Buchanan’s experience he had never run across a more conscientious manager. It was after two attempts that Mr Garry had been finally secured as manager for the Paeroa factoiy. Prior to coming to Paeroa Mr Garry had been manager of the Kaipara Cooperative Dairy Company, and that company had been recognised as an exceptionally good one during Mr Garry’s management. The happy relations which existed between the staff and Mr Garry spoke volumes for his good management of men, as weiL as the good results achieved-on the manufacturing side of the business. Mr Garry’s departure from Paeroa would indeed be a loss to the community. Paeroa’s loss would be Ngaruawahia’s gain, and he had to congratulate Mr Garry on being promoted to the charge of a factory as large as the one to which he was going. Outside of his work, Mr Garry had proved a true sport, and the presentation was a very appropriate one, as he was a bowler and took a keen interest in the game. He had also proved an energetic football supporter, and took a keen interest in coaching the younger generation the good old game of Rugby. In conclusion Mr ■ Buchanan wished Mr and Mrs Garry prosperity and gpod health in their new location, and he felt sure that they would indeed prove as popular in Ngaruawahia as they had done in Paeroa.
In reply Mr Garry said he was indeed thankful on behalf of himself and Mrs Garry for the many kind things Mr Buchanan had. said concerning themselves. He had always done his best in the interests of the dairying industry, with which he had been associated for the past 20 years. When he had started out as a young fellow he made up his mind to reach the top, and he felt that he had made good in aspiring to the management of the Ngaruawahia factory, whicn was one of the largest operated by the New Zealand Co-op. Dairy Company. It only required common-sen.se and application for any young man in the factory to gain distinction in the service of the company. Mr Garry pointed put that he had enjoyed his association with the Paeroa staff, most of whom had been at the factory for the past two years. In conclusion, he could only thank those most heartily w~ho had gathered together to express their well wishes. During the evening songs were given by Mrs Mitchell, Miss Forbes, Mr P. Mill, and Mr F. Berry, and a violin solo by Miss B. Jones. The various items were thoroughly enjoyed, and all received encores. Dancing was indulged in until a late hour,
excellent music being provided by Mrs Cooke, extras being played by Miss I. McKenna. Mr F. Pitts made an excellent M.C. A most enjoyable supper wa.s provided, and a very fine evening ended with three cheers for Mr and Mrs Garry.
