Another good way to fill in the deep holes would be to fill . cement bags with gravei and sew them up; cl&an all the mud out of the holes and dump in the sack? about six inches below the level of the road. By the time the sacks rotted the gravel would have formed one solid lump. You would have to fix ,up the Kopu ferry. Probably our Borough and County councils would help us "in this matter.. If the engineer is I in Thames at any time, if he will call on me I will show him the gravel that I want to deliver ' from the Karaka Creek and explain, more -fully.” ' The chairman said that the Boaid had no money, so that settled the matt,er. . ' • The clerk was instructed to inform Mr White that the Board was making arrangements for a supply of metal at a cheaper rate. Some metal and faspines had already been laid on the road. It was pointed out that in so far as the statement referred to the metalling of Pic ko Road it was not, a final statement, as work had been-done and n consequence payments made since March 31 last. Furthermore, the expenditure would be charged to a larger area than the town board district, and there would also be a credit against it from donations by settlers. With regard to the two-thirds of the general rate collectable in the town district, which is a set-off against expenditure in the towri district by the Council, it was stated that, the general rate collectable in the town district last year was £154 16s Id, and, therefore, the two thirds amounted to £lO3 4,5. The total expenditure shown in the statement was £203 17s lid.
