FOOTBALL.

NGATEA V. KEREPEEHI. The Ngatea and Kerepeehi football teams met at Ngatea on Saturday last before a fair attendance. The field was in good condition, but a strong wind was blowing downfield. The teams were :— Kerepeehi.—S. Rata, R. Carr, R. Hawera, W. Murphy, T. Majiiry, J. Connor, W. Kidd, T. Rapana, V. Dent, W. Hurikino., G, McKinnon, C. Fisher, R. Steedman, N. Tipa, Waiwai. Ngatea.—R. McGuire, C. Ellis, K. Campbell, Hortene, W. Molloy, F. Nicol, W. Tanner, L. Marchant, J. Ivan, W. Johnson, R. Jobe, W. Dawson, S. Phillips, P. Leonard, R. Spencer. Kerepeehi kicked with j.hte wind m their favour, and made good use of it by forcing play into Ngatea’s half, where play was practically restricted for t,he first quarter. Ngatea was tried out several times, and only good defence saved the situation. Several free kicks by Kerepeehi failed. With the help of the wind Ngatea took the ball with them in the second spell, but a. long kick upset a chance to score. Several good passing rushes by Ngatea were dangerous, Campbell and Nicoll shining out. Two penalty kicks in quick succession gave the home team an opportunity, and Molloy converted the second one. Ngatea 3, Kerepeehi 0. Play continued in mid-field until Kerepeehi pushed forward and gained a penalty, but Fisher failed to convert. After a good deal of loose play Tanner secured and passed to Nicoll r who, after beating two men, passed to Campbell, who scored. Molloy did not succeed with the kick. Ngatea 6, Kerepeehi 0After half-time, with the help of the wind Kerepeehi looked like sooting .several times, but Ngatea’s defence was sound. From some loose play in Ngatea’s territory Campbell secured and, beating all opposition in grand style, scored between the posts. Molloy converted. Ngatea. 11, Kerepeehi 0. Just before changing oyer a penalty kick in'Ngatea’s territory was successfully undertaken by Fisher. Ngatea 11, Kerepeehi 3. The last spell saw Ngatea forcing play into Kerepeehi’s territory, but Steedinan secured and, after running up the line, passed to Hurikino, who scored. Fisher failed with the kick. Ngatea 11, Kerepeehi 6. Kerepeehi defended for the remainder of the game, but no further scores were registered. Mr R. Phelan was referee. Campbell, Nicoll, and McGuire played well for Ngatea, while Steedman, Dent, Hurikino, and Connor were the pick of Kerepeehi. THIRD GRADE MATCH. A third grade match between teams from Ngatea "and Turua was played at Turua on Saturday last. The teams were very uneven in size, the Turua boys being much heavier. They won by 17 points to 3. The players took a keen interest in the game, and handled the ball well,' and a marked improvement on the play of the previous Saturday was noticeable.. The referee, Mr G. T, Davidson, explained many of his rulings, and this was much appreciated. A feature of the match was the interest taken by the spectators. This speaks well for the future of the game. PLAINS NOTES. At a special meeting of the Plains Rugby Union on Monday evening Mr W. Thompson was elected delegate to the Thames Valley Rugby Union, vice H' Berney, resigned. Mr J. H. Nicholson was appointed to the match postponement. committee. Mr Y. Thompson was appointed manager for the representative team for the match against Waihi on Saturday next. PLAINS REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. The weekly meeting of the Hauraki Plains Referees’ Associatioi was held at Ngatea on Monday evening. Present : Messrs. G. T. Davidson (chairman), E. McConnell, R. Phelan, G. Porteous, J, Costello, D. A. Vincent, W. Thompson, J. H. Nicholson, and J. Reid. An apology for absence was received frtfm Mr J. Banks, who was ill. The referees’ reports were received. Mr R. Phelan was enthusiastically congratulated on the manner in which he controlled the KerepeehiNgatea match. A vote of sympathy to Mr J. Banks, who at present is ill, was carried unanimously. Mr H. Berney, of Waitakaruru, was nominated as a member of the association. Many points in connection with rules were discussed, and the mother association was to be referred to for a ruling on some noints. SATURDAY’S TEAM. The following team has been selected to represent Plains against Waihi on Saturday next at Waihi: — Full-back, J. Adlum; ters, C. Molloy, K. Campbell, G. Garry? five-eighths, F. Nicoll, W. Molloy; half-back, L. Thorburn; rover, L. Ryan ; forwards, B. Wallis, R. Steedman, L. Morley, T. Rapana, J. Millington, D. Cowdrey, L. Pentecost. Emergencies : R. McGuire, G. Masters, V. Dent, Lipscombe.
