DRAINAGE BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting o£ the Hauraki Drainage Board was held at Turua on Friday last, the chairman (Mr G. Gray) presiding. There were present : Messrs J. Mules, R. H. Heappy, D. G. McMillan, and the clerk (Mr J. E. Green). Mr Baker was granted leave of absence owing t,o illness. CLASSIFICATION. Mrs M. Markham, Turua, wrote stating that after interviewing the Board’s classifier she was prepared to withdraw her objection to the classification in consideration of the Board .agreeing tp clean the roadside drain abounding her property from the culvert across the road up to her centre outlet, and to maintain this each year. The chairman said that the classifier had come tp the conclusion that the drain should be cleaned. The work had since been done. SEPTIC TANK WATER. Mr S. W. Mercer, Turua, wrote asking the Board’s sanction to allow the water from a septic tank t,o be emptied into Piako outlet. He assured the Board that no solid matter would go into the drain. —Received. The clerk said that' the Board’s offer in regard to fencing would oe availed of. PORRITT’S OUTLET. Mr J. H. J. Johnson waited on the Board in connection with Porrittls out,let.Mr Heappy said that this outlet was now found necessary for the drainage of land farther' back than was originally intended. The drain should be widened for 401 or 50 chains. Mr Johnson said that the drain Was too small, and when it was widened a small stop-bank could be erected. Mr Gray said that the classifier was of the opinion that something should be done. The drain was useless at present to Mr Johnson, so he was draining to the river where possible. The matter was discussed at length, and it was agreed that the matter be left in the hands of the r iding member tp carry out whatever improvements were required. • GENERAL. Accounts totalling £49 7s, including £22 15s Id for reclassification of land, ‘were passed for payment. It was decided to hold a special meeting to consider wha/t rates should be struck in the various areas. 1
