A Native woman named Wihi Piahama, wife of Manga Clark, died suddenly at her residence in Junction Road, Paeroa, yesterday morning. The police being out of town at the time, the matter was reported to the postmaster, who informed the coroner at Waihi, and an inquest was held this morning. A post-mortem examination by Dr. Little revealed the fact that the had died of tubercular peritonitis,, and a verdict in accordance with this was given by the coroner, Mr W. M. Wallnutt. The picture theatre at Karangahake, which is leased by Messrs Finch and Whitting, was broken into yesterday and a quantity of confectionery, valued at about 10s, was, taken from the operating room. The matter was reported to Constable McC 1 inchy,; who, after making inquiries at the school to-day, obtained statements from two of the- Children admitting the offence. The picturisation of Zane Grey’s well-known novel, “The U.P. Trail," is the attraction atl the Central Theatre tonight. Kathleen Williams takes the leading role, and as Beauty Stanton Miss Williams has added greatly to her fame. The permanent ground committee of the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Society met on the showgrounds, Kerepeehi, pn Saturday to inspect the ground and decide what drainage, fencing, and other permanent improvements should be suggested to the society at the annual meeting which will be held shortly.
