kerepeehi. ■ HALL SOCIETY. The annual meeting pf the Kerepeehi Public Hall Society was called for last night and twenty members of the society attended. Owing to the absence of the chairman, who was away from the district, Mr J. A. G. Wilson was appointed chairman for the meeting. A controversy then arose, Mr Devereaux contending that the meeting could not proceed, as it r“ • was out of order, as the rules of the society said that the annual meeting must, be held in June, and also because a quorum of the executive was not present. He moved, and Mrs Devereaux seconded, that the meeting be adjourned till further notice. Mr H. Hoff moved as an amendment that the meeting carry on. This was seconded by Mr J. Jenkin, and on being put to the meeting was cairied by eight votes to four. fcT ■ Much discussion ensued. « Mr J- H. Nicholson said that as a quorum of the excutive was not present the meeting was illegal. It was pointed out by the secretary that two of the seven committeemen had left the district without resigning, and that three of the members were present. In his opinion, in a - . ca?e like this three of the five should form a quorum. Mr Devereaux contended that the motion—that the meeting carry on—was out of order. He said that as .the financial year had terminated the executive no longer held office. The secretary said that he intended . resigning.' and would vacate office immediately. Mr R. Hutchinson also said that he would resign. The gathering then broke up in disorder. z THE SCHOOL. t The architect to the Auckland Education Board has advised that the plans for the additions to the Kerepeehi school are being prepared, and tenders will be called shortly. Mr Potter, of the relieving staff, is at present in charge'of the Kerepeehi school during the absence, of Mrs the headmistress, who is in ; the Thames Hospital with appendicitis. HORAHIA. . RETICULATION. A scowload of poles for’the Thames Valley- Power Board was landed at Horahia recently. The reticulation of the KerepeehinKopuarahi Road section will be commenced shortly. NGATEA. PI AIMS REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. • The weekly meeting of the Hauraki Ph ins Referees’ Association was held at Ngatea on Tuesday evening, Mr G. T. Davidson presiding. Messrs Porteous, Cc stello, McConnell, Banks, Vincent; and Phelan were present. V -The following referees were ap- * pointed’., Waitakaruru 'v-. Kerepeehi, t at Kerepeehi, seniors' Mr R. Phelan ; Tvrua v. Ngatea, at Ngatea, seniors Mr J. Banks, third-grade Mr G. T. ! Davidson.. - Various rulings were discussed, and ckboard explanations vere given by the members. ’■ It was’decided that stern measures to suppress appealing and talking on the field should be taken. Referees ■ were-instructed to stop the practice. WAIKINO., —- MASQUERADE BALL. .hi Friday last a plain and fancy dress -masquerade ball was held in . the Victoria Hall by the Waitekauri and Golden Cross Lodge M.U. Oddfellows. .The weather was favourable for thp occasion, about 200 being pre- ' se> t, including visitors from Waihi and’ Paeroa and other parts. The ’ ha’l and- supper rooms -were tastefully ' decorated for the occasion. - At about 8 P-m. the function, commenced'with a grand march,, led by Mrs Thomas and Mr H..
