There is no compulsion upon any farmer supplying the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., to take up shares in the Company. His supply is welcome whether he applies for shares or not, but it PAYS HIM to become a shareholder. Once a man applies for shares he receives a SPECIAL PAYMENT over and above that paid the non-shareholder. This payment—fid per lb. in the case of butter shares—is credited to his account until the £1 shares allotted on the basis of one share for every 70lbs. of butter-fat supplied, are fully paid up.
