EGGS FOR EXPORT.

# BIG CONSIGNMENT FOB ENGLAND. The prospects for the present poultry season, would appear to be considerably brighter than was the case last year, a fact that is mainly due to the organisation of the industry through the different egg circles. The minimum price for the season has been fixed at Is 4'd per dozen for eggs and Is 2d per lb for egg-pulp,, about nine eggs going to tire lb of pulp. As, during the flush of last season eggs sold at is Id per dozen, this represents a considerable difference to the poultry farmer’ Surplus eggs will be dealt with by pulping and exportation, and in connection with the latter it may be mentioned that space has been engaged on board the Corinthic for 60,000 dozen eggs for exportation to England in September from Wellington district alone. The Auckland and Southland districts are expected to bring the consignment, up to 200,000 dozen. The eggs will be carefully graded by Government experts in Wellington for weight, colour, etc., and taken' charge of by the High Commissioner’s office on their arrival in England.

This is a new departure in the poultry industry of New Zealand, and if successful opens up great possibilities. The temperature, of the cold storage requires special attention as it is not possible to freeze eggs without having a large proportion of broken shells, and this question is ■now engaging the attention of the Marketing Committee of the New Zealand Poultry Association, Messrs Morritit, Bruce, and Palmer. The suggestion in regard to returns at present is that the whole consignment shall be pooled, payment to be according to results obtained.
