RESTORATION OF LICENSE

♦- OPPOSING MOTION LOST. CHAMBER NOT IN FAVOUR. Mr Buchanan, in moving his notice of motion at last evening's meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to rescind the resolution passed by the Chamber at, its last’ meeting with reference to the restoration pf licenses in Paeroa, said the resolution as carried by the Chamber on May 22 last was only a one-sided one because it only referred to one side of the issue, the side that, was in favour of restoration. The Chamber was asking for a one-sided vote. This fact had been proved by the reason that only one reply had been received to all the letters that had been sent by the Chamber t,o local bodies in other nolicense areas. The resolution was illogical. The Paeroa Borough Council was the only one to reply, and promised the Chamber support. That fact was accounted for by the majority of the local councillors being members of tithe Chamber who had already supported the resolution. The speaker said t,hat he thought it was far better to leave matters as they were, if the Chamber could not put forward a more logical argument than it had. He therefore formally moved that it be resicinded.

The motion, which was seconded by Mr Johpstone, on being put was lost on the voices.
