MANUAL TRAINING.

PAEROA SCHOOL BUILDING. NO IMMEDIATE ACTION. At the Borough Council meeting last night a' letter was received ‘from the Minister of Education acknowledging receipt of a copy of a resolution with respect to a difficulty that had arisen between the Education Department and the local school committee in regard to manual training. The Minister stated that the matter had received his careful consideration, and it was regretted that the question of provision of suitable rooms for manual training must stand over for the present in view of the very pressing needs which existed for the erection of new primary schools and for additions to existing primary schools to relieve overcrowding. The letter further stated that the Department recognised the difficulties under which Paeroa childien attended manual training classes it Thames, and regarded the case of Paeroa as one demanding action as .soon as possible. The Department, also noted that the attendance of the secondary school classes of- the . District High School .was. ; ipcreasing, and that, therefore,, tlje whole question of the; provision 'torn secondary, and tech'nical edlicqtion at Paeroa would problikyi/: 'td An’ .4atje,. .In. view, of the ...experiments which were at present being made with the Junior High School principle, it was not considered than the Departmnet should proceed with the erection of manual training centres on the lines hithetto adopted until it has been settled whether those lines would be found suitable if junior high schools were t,o become common in the Dominion.
