DISTRICT NEWS.

NETHERTGN. TENNIS SOCIAL. Another of the series of socials held by the Netherton Tennis Club toon place on Friday evening last. The ha’l was taxed to its utmost to hold the crowd who ’’assembled together for the occasion. The hall was most artistically decorated, and great credit is due to the committee for the excellent manner in which the entertainment was carried out The evening opened with a concert, and that the audience was well pleased with the talent was evinced by the number of encores given the performers. Several selections were rendered by the school children of the district, all of whom were heartily clapped for their efforts. The "tyo Bobs” (Messrs Ogan and Mellor) brought forth rounds of applause, and it was only after their third consecutive appearance that they were allowed to retire. Songs were sung by Mrs Smith, Messrs Maude, Mellor, Ogan, and'Nichqlls, the items being very much appreciated. Recitations were rendered by Miss H. Johnson, Miss V. Bertelsen, and Mr C. Potter. Towards the conclusion of the concept the school children sang “ I want some money,” and the audience generously replied with a shower of pennies. Mrs Potter and Miss I. Halligan proved very capable pianists. Later in the evening dancing commenced, and was carried on until an early hour next morning. It is understood thafc the Tennis Club will benefit to the extent of about £lO as the result of the social. KEREPEEHI. SPORTS ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Kerepeehi Sports Association was held in the hall on Monday evening. Mr J. H. Nicholson presided over a small attendance. • The balance-sheet showed a small credit in the bank, but a decided loss was shown on the year’s working. Vice-presidents’ subscriptions were £35 less this year, entry fees £l2, less, and gate receipts £lB less. On the other hand the refreshment. booth, which was run by the committee, showed a profit of about £3O. A dance could not be held this year, so the funds did not benefit by the sum of £ll,' as at previous years. The prize money was about it,he same as on previous occasions. Altogether, the meeting resulted in a loss of about £22, compared with previous meeiings. The credit balance at present was about £2O, compared with £46 6s 5d at the beginning of the previous year.

Members said that considering the weather on the day of the meeting, and other circumstances, the result was satisfactory. The balance-sheet was adopted, subject to audit. It was decided, on the motion of Mr J. A. G. Wilson, seconded by Mr P. Henry, that the secretary and treasurer be given a donation of ten guineas. Mr J. H. Nicholson was authorised to sign cheques as the president had left Owing to the small attendance the election of officers was postponed until a later meeting. It was pointed out by a member that (the A. and P. Society had £6OO for improvements to its show , ground. Comparatively little interest was taken in the show by Kerepeehi people, and there was a danger of the show not, being held in Kerepeehi in the future.. He suggested that the show and sports be amalgamated and a two-day event made. In regard to the A. and P. Society membership, it was pointed out that there were comparatively few farmers around Kerepeehi. They should, however, drop their petty differences and unite to get. the show held on the show ground. Improvements of a permanent nature could then be made. A two-day show would be very desirable. it was suggested that a meeting be held later to discuss amalgamating the sports with the show, and finally it was decided to hold the meeting in about a month’s time.
