DISTRICT NEWS.
NGATEA. HERD-TESTING. There is a farmer on the Plains whose herd only produced 136.31 b oi butter-fat in 218 days, and ithere is a cow that, during the 223 days she was under test, only produced 115.191 b of butter-fat. These facts have been gathered fi cm a report of the herd-testing carried out at the N.Z. Dairy Company’s Ngatea butter factory during the sea' son ending May 3L and go to prove the value of such testing. No dairy farmer would continue milking a-cow that only produced 115 1-5 lbs butter-fat during a season, yet it was probably only when herdtesting was carried out that her low production was discovered. her with the highest individual cow of the 1728 under test, and the reason is obvious. This cow produced 451.01 lb.-, in 257 days. Of the 57 herds under test the highest averaged 3661 b in 289 days and the lowest herd 136.3 lbs in 218 days. QUOTATION FOR STOCK.
