COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL.
SHOW EXECUTIVE ENTERTAIN.
The - complimentary social evening tendered by the Hauraki A. and P. association to thw lady helpers and their friends in recognition of their valuable help to the executive during the show held in December last was held in the Soldiers’ Club on Thursday last. The hall was prettily decorated with nikau pajms, lycopodium, and other greenery. The fiont of the hail was arranged as a drawing room, and a huge fire burned merrily in the large open fireplace. ' Around thss were grouped the euchre table.. There were about seventy people present During the evening musical items were rendered by Mesdames Budd, Hague-Smith, Topliss, and Messrs Stevens, Topliss, and E. Edwards.
The euchre tournament, in the charge of Mr J. W. Silcock, evoked considerable interest, and the competition was keen. At the conclusion of the tournament Mr W. F. Johnstone, president of the association* in a vew well chosen words thanked the ladies for attending, and on behalf of the association expressed grateful appreciation and thanks for the valuable help rendered by them, to whom a large part of the success of the show was due. He then presented the prizes won in the euchre tournament, the first prize being won by Miss Dobson am’ the second by Mrs Hague-Smith. Mr F. C. Hubbard won the first prize for men, while the chief cattle steward (Mr J. Hamilton), displayed his skill by carrying off the “booby” prize. The ladies’ prizes were donated by the stewards and the men’s by the president. After a very dainty and delicious supper had been .served by Mrs T. H. Hale the hall was cleared and a brief dance was held. The music was contributed by Mesdames Budd, L. E. Cassrels, and Miss Houlihan. About 12.30 a.m., after a little community 'singing, the gathering broke up,
The president and stewards were heartily thanked by the ladies for the very jolly and enjoyable evening accorded Hhem. The energetic secretary. Mr E. Edwards, received many congratulations from those present for the successful and capable way he had arranged the evening’s pleasure.
