KEREPEEHI. hospital ball. A plain and fancy dress masquerade ball in aid of the hospital site funds was held at Kerepeehi on Thursday evening. Though the attendance wai not very large a very enjoyable evening was spent. The music, by members of the local orchestras was very good, and Mr G. Masters as M.C. kept the function, going with a swing.
A launch from Thames had been engaged, but, owing to the state of the weather and to. other attractions there were few intending passengers at Shofitland, so the launch did not run. However, there were many who waited in vain on the various wharves dqwn the river. .
A dainty supper was handed round about 11 o’clock, and dancing, including a Streamer e and a balloon waltzs,. was carried on till an early hour. The first prize for the ladiqp’ fancy dress was won by Miss R. Brown, who represented a Maori maid, while Mrs W. Kidd, whose costume represented a powder puff, was awarded the prize for the most original lady’s costume. Mr W. Kidd, who was dressed as a girl, was awarded first prize and Mr C. Fawcett, whose costume of towelling decorated with sponges, brushes, soap, etc., and representing the “order of the bath,” was voted the most original in the men’s competition. Others in fancy dress were: Mis,s M. McMillaii, Japanese lady ; Miss A. McMillan, ballet girl; Mrs Barnbrook, Norwegian girl; Miss Connor and Mrs J. Adlqm, Maori maidens; Miss B. Thompson., Gipsy ; Miss E. Thompson, milkmaid ; Mrs A. McMillan, winter ; “Mrs Potter,, Alsatian peasant; Mrs M. McMillan, night; Mrs Fawcett, Egyptian water-carrier; Mr R. Carr, woman ; Mr W. Thompson,; cook. POST OFFICE. In connection with a, statement made at a recent meeting of the Kerepeehi Dairy Farmers’ Union in reference to the delivery of letters at the Kerepeehi post office a misapprehension prevails. The complaint did not refer to any action of Mrs Innes, who is a conscientious and obliging, officer, but to a member of the permanent staff whp was in charge during Mrs. Innes’ illuess. NGATEA. THE SCHOOL. The alterations to the Ngatea school are now almost completed. It is expected that the building will be passed by the architect this week, and that the high school pupils will move in early next week. The new building will have a floor space about three times as great as the old building. The number, on the roll of the district high school is now only 21. The state of the roads has caused several children to cease attending. Mr Flavell, who has been acting headmaster for the past few weeks, will leave during the week-end, The name of Mr R. Grabble has been submitted to the school committee for approval. , t
