CONCERT AT TURUA.
STBEET. LIGHTING FUND. A GREAT SUCCESS. Never was - the Victoria Hall, Turua> _as crowded, and never was an ente*> tain me nt there appreciated as much as that given by the Turua Concert Party on Monday evening to raise funds for street lighting. From the overture ,to the finale, three hours later, the concert, went with a swing, and there was not- a moment. The antics of Sambo, Bones, Jumbo, and other members of the troupe, with their songs and patter’kept the audience convulsed with laughter. The vocal items were of a high class order, and were well received. Songs were sung oy Miss KMiller, Messrs A." Walker, A. CressweU, Cassin, G. Horrix, J. Johnston, A. Sutton, S. W. Bagnall, a mixed quartette comprising Mrs Mules, Mrs Walker, Dr. Bathgate, and Mr R. Henderson, a male quartette comprising Dr. Bathgate, Messrs S.. Bagnall,. G. Horrix, and R. Henderson,, and a quintette comprising Messrs S Baghall, Dr. Bajthgate, R." Henderson, G. Horrix, and G, J... Walker, while all the troupe joined in the chorus.. The - accompaniments were played by Mrs .G. Goodsell and the overtures by the TUJ.ua Orchestra, comprising Miss K. Miller, Messrs J. McAlisiter, G. Walker,, T. White (violins), G. Henderson (cello), . and Mrs . Goodsell (piano). . - • The second half of the programme opened with a very- realistic burWeSque.on a Turua Town Board meeting. The parts- of the various com-, missioners were taken by Dr. Bathgate, Henderson, Bagnall, Sutton, Cresswell, Horrix, and Hill, while Mr J. Walker,:was “only the clerk.” Whether by costume, man-, ner, or intonation, there was no mistaking the various. members. Although parts of the farce were not heard at the back of the hall the whole entertainment was taken in the spirit in which it was intended and was much appreciated. The whole concert reflects great credit on the party, and the people of Turua will eagerly look forward to ’ their next appearance. Special mention must be made of Mr A. P. Gardiner, whose work on the stage made it possible to stage the performance,, and of Mr F. Olsen for the lighting effects.
