ANGLICAN PARISH.
MEETING OF PARISHIONERS. PROPOSED DIVISION. Following on the lines as suggested by the Bishop of Auckland during his recent visit to Paeroa a meeting of parishioners of St. Paul’s Church was held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday evening. The vicar (the Rev. F. BDobson) presided over a small attendance.
The Rev. Dobson explained that the meeting had been called for the purpose of deciding whether the parish should be divided or otherwise, and. if divided, to discuss ways and means of raising sufficient maintenance to carry on in Paeroa without assistance from the Hauraki Plains.
After a good deal of discussion Mr W. J. Ellis moved, and Mr G. Hart seconded, that the meeting be adjourned until Tuesday, July 3. Mr Lawrence gave notice of motion that the parish be divided, the Paeroa parish to comprise Paeroa, Hikutaia, Wharepoa, Netherton, and Tirohia, and the Hauraki Plains to comprise Turua, Ngatea, Kerepeehi, Patetonga, Waitakaruru, and Kaihere. It was thought that should this resolution be carried at the next meeting of parishioners the Hauraki Plains parish would be placed on a Home Mission status.
Mr F. Thorp moved that the Diocesan secretary be asked what amount, if any, the central fund would be prepared to pay towards the. maintenance of a separate parish in Paeroa.
It was decided to invite delegates from Hikutaia, Netherton,. and Wharepoa to attend the meeting on July 3, to discuss the question of amintenance of a separate parish.
