PAEROA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The weekly meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union was held last night at. 8 p.m., when there were present Messrs J. Walmsley (chairman), W.<Power, H. M. Shand, C. Potter, G. Jenkinson,, B. Neil, W, Morrison, and the secretary.

It was decided to comply with the request from Te Aroha. and send a third-grade team to Te Aroha t,o play a curtain-raiser on Monday, June 4. Mr B. Neil was elected manager. A letter was received from Mr J. W. Silcock thanking the union for electing him a life member. Mr Silcock also donated a medal to the union.

Permission was given KarangahakeClub to play Waikino at Kai’angahake on June 4.

Referees’ reports were received and approved. The referee of the junior match Komat.a-East v. Suburbs reported having ordered a player off the field for swearing. The referee’s action was approved. Accounts to the amount of 108 were passed for payment. The following players were registered: R. Cockraine (senior), Suburbs Club; A. McCollum (senior), Netherton ClubJ. Williams, Kv • angahake Club.

Mr Shand was elected manager of the senior representative team to play at Waihi on June 9.

It was decided to send a lette v of sympathy to A. K. Alley, who is at present in the Thames Hospital as a result of injuries recived a-. Karangahake on May 19.

The" following are the matches and referees for next Saturday:—

Seniors. —Komata v. West (Mr Eklund), at Paeroa. Netherton v. Suburbs (Mr E. Shaw), at Hikutoia. juniors.—West v. Suburbs (Mr B. -Neil), at Paeroa. Netherton v. Fto-mata-EaSt (Mr R. B. Penlington). at Netherton.

Third Grade.—East. v. West (Mr C. Smith),, at Paeroa.

HAURAKI PLAINS RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union was held at Ngatea on Monday evening, present: Messrs J. Costello (president) and D. A. Vincent (Secretary) (Ngatea), H?B)riiey and C. Hayward (Waitakaruru), W. J. Dalzell (PatetongaL G- Porteous (Turua), J. H. Nicholson and W. Thompson (Kerepeehi). Apologies wer&'received Jrom Mr Wallis and Mr. Gray. The Hauraki Plains Referees’ Association wrote asking permission fo? members to be present at union meetings.—Granted. The Ngatea Club wrote asking for permission for the Ngatea v. Patetonga senior, match to be replayed because of the lateness of the arrival of the visitors owing to unforeseen circumstances if the result would be likely to affect t.he final figures. Mr Vincent explained that transport was arranged but owing to engine trouble the boat did not arrive at the top of the canal until 2 P.m., so did not arrive at Patetonga until nearly 4 p.m. The launch ran on the bank and was stuck for threequarters of an hour. The Ngatea club had done all it could to be present on time.

Members commented favourably on the sportsmanship of the Patetonga club in not claiming the match by default.

The Patetonga delegate supported the application, and on the motion of Mr Thompson, seconded by Mr Porteous, it was granted. The secretary was instructed to write to the Thames Union asking foi home and home inter-union matches. Mr C. Hayward was invited to assist the union representative selectors. i

Messrs F. W. Carter and H. A. McCollum were granted clearances to other unions.

The matter of encroachment on the field was discussed at length, andJt was unanimously decided that in future any person cautioned for ehdroaching and who refuses to move back or again offends be debai ied from attending any of the union’s matches.

It was decided that a “Possibles” v. “Probables” match should be played at Ngatea on Saturday next, commencing at 2.30 P-m.

A junior match between teams composed of players on opposite sides of the river will be played as a curtainraiser to the representative match on June 9. Play will commence at 1.15 p.m.. The teams will be called East and West, respectively. The charges for admission to the represetnative matches was fixed at 2s for men and Is for ladies. .

The delegates to the /Thames Valley Rugby Union reported that the Union had requested that no entertainment be provided for visiting representative teajns. The delegates to .the Thames Valley Rugby Union reported that the referee was under the protection of the home team until midnight on the night of matches. It was the general ruling of all Rugby unions for the protection of referees. It was decided to provide the union and Referees’ Association officials with rosettes. Arrangements were made for official gatekeepers, timekeepers, referees, etc.. After hearing the explanation of the delegates to the Thames Valley Rugby Union in regard to the recent protests the Turua delegate agreed to withdraw his club’s protest. The Patetonga delegate promised to lay the matter before his club. Mr Porteous pointed out that the Thames Valley Rugby Union had decided that whether the ruling of the referee was right or wrong his decision could not be altered. NGATEA FOOTBALL CLUB. A general meeting of the Ngatea Football Club was held on Monday evening. Mr J. Costello., presided over a fail- n umber of members. It was decided to ask the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union foir permission to the Ngatea v. Patetonga matches at the end of the season if the results were likely to affect the finals. Owing to the lateness of arrival of ithe visitors the matches had to be played in semi-darkness. Mr E. McConnell was appointed secretary during the temporary absence of Mr C. Mellon-. The senior selector was appointed manager of any of the Ngatea teams when on tour. A vote of thanks to Mr E. Charmers and Mr D. A. Vincent, to whom was due the success of\he riecent concert by which the club benefited to the extent of over £lo', was carried by acclamation. PLAINS REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. The weekly meeting of the Hauraki Plains Referees’ Association was held at Ngatea on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs G. T. Davidson (chairman), R. Phelan, J. Reed,, R. McConnell, J. Costello, D. A. Vincent, and J. Banks (secretary). The referees’ reports were received and discussed at length. Mr G. T. Davidson was appointed spokesman for the Referees’ Association on the Rugby Union. Mr J. Reed was appointed Referee for the Possibles v. Probables match on Saturday next. It was decided that. the names of Messrs Reed, Stretton, Banks, and Phelan should be submitted to the Union for selection for representative matches. The discussion on by-laws for the association was postponed until Satu*day evening. The discussion on the rules of Rugby was carried on until a late hour.
