SPECIAL MEETING. WORKS TO BE DONE. A special meeting pf the Turua Town Board was held on Wednesday, evening. 7 Mr J. Mules presided, and there ; were present: Commissioners C. Scott, F. Olsen, A. P. Gardiner, J. T. Davies, F/ Beck, and the clerk, Mr J. B. Green. WORKS COMMITTEE’S REPORT. • Mr A, P. Gardiner, on behalf of the works committee, recommended that the following’ works be put in hand: . The formation pf a watertable from the post office comer to tjie store and the raising of the footpath in front of the store. A bad piece of road near the mill, and also the crossing near the mill, required attention. Mr Gardiner pointed out that th e county road roller and scarifier would . be available the following day, so there was a good opportunity of having the road alongside the concrete strip and at. both ends of Hauraki Road in the Board’s area attended to. Mr F. Olsen asked if the watertable and the footpath in the township could not be done now and* the road later. ; Mr Mules said that the whole job would have to be done. Several members spoke of the ne- ■ eessity of having' the whole job done, as the road was in a very bad state. On the motion of Mr C. Scott, seconded by Mr Al P. Gardiner, it was unanimously decided: that the work be done immediately. It must be done to the satisfaction of the works committee within a specified time. The chairman suggested that the portions of Hauraki Road from Scott’s i fo Willow drain and from Mules’ to ’ the boundary be scarified, as it wa> useless to attempt patching them. After, a little discussion the matter was left in the hands ,qf the works committee. The Board’s income and the estimates for the next year were then discussed, but as full details were not • available, and the Valuation Department had not yet advised the Board of certain alterations t,o the valuation roll, the matter of striking the rate ivas left to a special meeting, to be held on. Thursday, July 7, prior to the ordinary meeting. During the discussion the clerk pointed out that the'Board .was liable to the County Council for the cost of holding the road loan poll if it was not carried. The chairman remarked thait, ii. his opinion, the poll should not, and probably would not, be carried.
