THE THAMES UNIONS. AMALGAMATION DEFEATED. Delegate from (the Thames Valley Rugby Union met the Thames Union on Wednesday night in an endeavoar t 0 affiliate the two unions. Thames is at present affiliated with Auckland. Mr. Silcock (president of the Thames Valley Union) stated that the New Zealand Union desired that the position should be considered in the interests of better football, and j)ig fixtures would result. The proposal , was not well received, ifc being finally resolved, "That, having heard the delegation, Thames Union cannot see its way clear to affiliate with the Thames^ Valley Union.” It was pointed out that Auckland matches were the foundation of Thames finance, and that travelling expenses would be much heavier sendipg teams up the Valley.
