The hours for the Waihi Telephone Exchange have, on the application of the Waihi Chamber of Commerce, been extended two hours daily, and the exchange is now open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. • Owing to the.unpropitious weather on Saturday afternoon t,he Bowling Club was forced to abandon the formal closing of the season. Fortunately, the Thames team was advised by telephone during the morning, and in consequence did not undertake the trip to Paeroa. The Postmaster-General (Hon. J. G. Coates), in reply to the Borough Coimcil’s- request for an extension of telegraph at the local telegraph office, said he had gone carefully into the question of opening the office be’wcen the hours of 7 and 8 p.m.. He regretted that the request could not be granted. It was pointed out that the volume of business likely to be transacted between 7 and 8 p.m. would be very small, not sufficient, to warrant the expenditure involved in providing extra attendance. The letter further stated that in the eventof a telegram of an urgent nature requiring to be transmitted arrangements could be made for its transmission on payment of a reopening fee.—Received. In connection with the framed photograph of councillors which was presented to Cr. If. sufficient inducement offers, Miss D. Molloy will visit various centres on the Plains for teaching the pianoforte and theory. Particulars may be obtained by ringing ’phone 58, Turua.
