EX-MAYOR HONOURED.
PRESENTATION BY COUNCILLORS. At the conclusion of the ordinary business of the Borough Council on Thursday evening His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall), said that the Council was about t,o enjoy one of the pleasant experiences that sometimes come to people in public life. Cr. .. . E. Brenan had that night vacated the Mayoral chair, which he had so ably filled for four years. The Council had already expressed admiration and appreciation of the services rendered by the ex-Mayor, continued the speaker, and therefore i.t was unnecessary for him to again refer to his sterling qualities and capable administration. The Mayor reminded Cr. Brenan that he already had a perpetual reminder of his term ofoffice, and another important event which it was; his joy to experience during the time he was. Mayor of Paeroa. The speaker referred to the silver ornament which stood on Cr. Brenan’s mantel-shelf. The Mayor said, it gave him great pleasure in asking the ex-Mayor to accept from the council associated with him during his four years’ term as Chief Magistrate a,framed photograph containing insets of the councillors who had been associated with him. The Mayor! said it was the wish of the councillors to perpetuate in soma slight manner his association with the Council. He trusted, when Cr. Brenan looked on the photograph in years to come, that he would remember with pleasure and pride his successful term of office. His Worship concluded by saying that he wished to associate Mrs Brenan’s name with the good wishes of the Council. He trusted that they would live long to enjoy the best of life’s good things, and that in the not too distant future the ex-Mayor would again be returned to fill the chair which he had just vacated, Crs. Edwards and Flatt endorsed the Mayor’s remarks. On rising, to reply Cr. Brenan was greeted with applause. He feelingly thanked the Mayor and Councillors on behalf pf Mrs Brenan and himself for their kind remarks and tangible recognition of his services. He maintained that he had done his work to the utmost of his ability, and felt very proud of the way the Council had seen fit to honour him. He was most grateful for their support and co-operation during his term as Mayoi. Much of the success attained by him had only been made possible by the assistance and loyalty accorded him by the Cr. Brenan said he took the opportunity of congratulating His Worship on the business-like and capable manner he had disposed of the business of the first council meeting. He had made a particularly good start, and he wished him all possible good luck for the future.
