TURUA TOWN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING). A meeting of the Turua Town Board was held on Wednesday last. Present: Messrs J l . Mules (chairman), F. Olsen, C. Scott,, J. T. Davies, A l , P. Gardiner, C. A. Ansford, F. Beck, and the clerk, Mr J. E. Green. The chair- ! man welcomed Mr Beck as a member I of the Board, and Mr Beck briefly returned thanks. ■ CORRESPONDENCE. The Valuer-General, Wellington, wrote, in response to a query, that a subsidy on rates is payable t,o dependent tpwn boards on general rates collected by the town board. The subsidy was not recoverable on any amount exceeding the amount recoverable on a rate of %d in the £, capital value. Where the amount of £2lO 13s Id was collected at a rate of l%d in the £ a-subsidy would be payable ■ on £lO5 6s 6d at the rate of 5s in the ,£ z making t,he amount payable £26 !6s 7d. The necessary forms of appliI cation for the subsidy would be post- ■ ed on July 1. —Received. I The Hauraki Plains County Council ' notified t,hat Mr Ansford had been ■ appointed ranger. SUPPLY OF METAL. I ■ Thames Quarries, Ltd.,, wrqte offering’ to supply metal at Ils a yard ' f.o.b. Thames if the Board could arj range transport. r " .The clerk reported that, acting on instructions . from the chairman, he had ordered 80yds, but it was difficult to arrange transport. He had made inquiries from (neighbouring local bpdies, shipping companies, the Lands Department, and local transport firms, but so far had been unable t,o make arrangements. Members were fully in accord with the actions of the chairman and the clerk, and remarked that it was a pity that now metal was available at. a reasonable price transport was holding up the supply. Mr Ansford suggested that the clerk ask Mr Bagnall for further particulars in connection with his offer to supply metal at 21s landed at Turua. as mentioned ip his interview with Mr Ansford. APPOINTING COMMITTEES. Mr Mules suggested that as the meetings were usually very prolonged a finance committee and a works committee should be appointed t,o do the spade work and submit reports. It was decided that the chairman and Messrs Olsen, Beck, and Gardiner be the works committee and Messrs Ansford, Scott, and Davies the finance committee. Mr Gardiner suggested that the works committee decide what works were necessary for the coming year and report to a special meeting on Wednesday, May 16. AGREEMENT WITH COUNTY. The clerk reported that the present agreement with the County Council had terminated, and suggested that it should be renewed. It was agreed that the matter be brought up at the next meeting of the Board. EXPERIMENTAL STRIP. It was reported that the experi- 1 mental strip was hung up until the tai’ sprayer arrived. A difficulty was also being experienced in finding a place to land blinding metal. SPECIAL MEETING. It was decided to hold a special meeting in a fortnight’s time, to go into the matter of next year’s rates.
