At the invitation of the committee set up some time ago to go into the question of flre-flghting measures, Captain Watts, advisory superintendent to the N.Z. Volunteer Fire Brigades Association, visited Ngatea recently and gave some useful information. He strongly advised the adoption, if financially possible, of the Dennis turbine pump. This could be attached to any modern motor car and driven by the engine of the car. The pump would cost £lB5 and the attachment £2O. It would then throw’ a stream of 200 gallons a minute to a height of 80ft. It would be necessary to have a car with the attachment affixed stationed at some central position. He would advocate, if this was not financially possible, the purchase of a manual pump. These could be bad fairly cheap now. It was pointed out that the N.Z.C.D. Co. would probably contribute towards the cost. The committee is investgating further, and hopes to have some definite proposals to place before.the people shortly.
