* Mr Claxton said at a meeting on the Harbour Scheme on Monday at. Ngatea that the Thames Valley Power Board was able this year to pay the whole of its interest and sinking fund out of revenue, so there was no necessity to strike a rate. A correspondent from Kaihere writes as follows: “A young couple were driving home in the early hours of the morning from an entertainment when the horse became startled, shied and plunged into a 14ft drain. The occupants were helped out of the drain, none the worse for their sudden immersion. It was with some difficulty that the head of the horse was kept above water until the at - rival of some neighbours, who spent a strenuous couple of hours in extricating the horse from the drain. The animal was none the worse for the accident, but the vehicle was considerably knocked about.’’ In connection with the annual meeting of householders, to be held at the Soldiers’ Club on Monday evening next, the following have been ■nominated for members pf the District. Messrs Woods and Jennings, proprietorg of pictures, Hikutaia, regret the non-screening pf the programme “The Last. Trail’’ on Tuesday. 24th. On account of the programme being wanted in Wellnigotn urgently for the 26th inst... and there being no trains running on Anzac Day, it had to be railed to Frankton on Tuesday to make sure of its despatch. Through not having a programme on hand the management was forced to close down for the night.
