MILK POWDER.

record output. future prospects bright. a record for the production of milk powder by the New Zealand Co-opeia-tive Dairy Company., Ltd., is being established this year, as the year’s final figures are expected to reach 3500 tons, or very nearly twice as much as was made last season. Prospects for this commodity are increasingly good. Reports from Ameiica show that the carrying of prohibition has set up a greater demand for raw milk, milk drinks, and milk p>oducts, such as ice cream, etc., leaving less available for the manufacture of powder and normal dairy products. In February, 1922, America had a stock pf 5,000,0001 b of milk powder, but on the corresponding date of this year the stocks were non-existent,, and New Zealand milk powder was being imported by way of London. This maintained the price for New Zealand milk powder, for which the prospects are regarded as bright. In casein manufacture, also, a decided record is' being established. It is expected that the full make for the season will reach 8000 tons, the bulk of which has gone ,to America. A strong and increasing demand is being experienced for this by-product of dairying, and it is anticipated that next season’s total will exceed 1000 tons.
