FOOTBALL.
HAURAKI PLAINS UNION. A meeting of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union was held at Ngatea on Monday last. Present: Messi’s J. Costello (chairman), H. Berney, and E. C. Marshall (Waitakaruru), G. Porteous ’’(Turua), J. Nicholson and G. Blythe (Kerepeehi), N. Wallis and W. Dalzell (Patetonga), and D. A. Vincent (Ngatea). Mr C. Hayward wrote from Auckland resigning his position as delega'e for the Waitakaruru Chib owing to illness. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Hayward expressing the Union’s regret. The Waitakaruru club wrote stating that Mr E. C. Marshall had been appointed delegate in place of Mr C. Hayward. Mr J. H. Nicholson was appointed one of the Union selectors in place of Mr C. Hayward. Dr. Bathgate, of Turua, was appointed honorary surgeon to the Union. Mr J. Costello was appointed chairman of the management committee. It is understood that the Hauraki Plains is the first union to have entered a challenge for the Peace Cup this season. After considerable discussion it was decided that the boundaries of the Waitakaruru club should be extended towards Ngatea to Settlers Drain. The draw for the first round resulted as follows: — April 14.— Patetonga v. Ngatea, at Ngatea; Kerepeehi v. Turua, at Turua ; Waitakaruru a bye. April 21. —Waitakaruru v. Ngatea, at Ngatea ; . Turua v. Patetonga, at Patetonga ; Kerepeehi a bye. April 28. —Ngatea v. Kerepeehi, at Kerepeehi; Waitakaruru v. Patetonga, at Patetonga; Turua a bye. May s.—Kerepeehi v. Patetonga, at Patetonga ; Turua v. Waitakaruru, at Waitakaruru; Ngatea a bye. May 12. —Ngatea v. Turua, at Turua ; Kerepeehi v. Waitakaruru, at Waitakaruru; Patetonga a bye. The second round is to be played ,in the same order, but the other teams will travel.
NGATEA CLUB. A general meeting of the Ngatea club was held on Monday evening. Mr D. Vincent presided over an attendance of about 24 members. It was decided to make a second ground alongside the present one, and arrangeirehts were made to have the work commenced immediately. Considerable discussion arose on the question of the insurance of players. Mr H. Berney, the agent for the N.Z. Insurance Company .attended and explained the terms of policies issued by his company. The matter was left to membmers to act on their own. It was pointed out that the Union would strictly enforce the rule stipulating that matches must start at 2.30 p.m. sharp.
PATETONGA. The annual meeting of the Patetonga Football Club was held in the Patetonga Hall last week. The following officers were elected' President, Mr N. Wallis; vice-presi-dents, Messrs F. Plummer, A. B. McDonald, W. Potoky, A. J. McDonald, and one other ; delegates, Messrs Wallis and W. Dalzell; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Dalzell; selector, Mr s. Young ; auditor. Mr A. Whiteman ; committee, Messrs T. Foote, 0. W. Benny, G. Garry, J. Millington, W. Newdick.
After considerable discussion it was decided to join up again with th a Hauraki Plains Rugby Union. The delegates were instructed to press for home and home matches.
It, was decided to hold fortnightly dances at Kaihere and Patetonga alternately.
REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Hauraki Plains Referees’ Association was held at Ngatea on Monday evening. Mr, R. EJamieson presided, and there were present Messrs J. Banks, G. T. Davidson and F. Stretton. The following new members were elected: J. Kidd (Kerepeehi), W. Dalzell (Patetonga), and L. James (Turua). Membership fees were fixed at ss. It was decided that referees should not officiate at matches in which thenhome team was playing. The following referees were appointed for next. Saturday’s matches: Patetonga v. Ngatea: L. James (junior), F. Stretton (senior). Kerepeehi v. Turua : G. T. Davidson (junior), J. Banks (senior).
