HAURAKI PLAINS COUNTY

SPECIAL MEETING OF COUNCIL. A special meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council was held prior to the ordinary meeting. The Auditor-General returned the balance-sheet certified correct with the exception of an unauthorised ex-, penditure of £6O on interest on the, Hikutaia Quarry account. The clerk explained that the permissible amount of unauthorised, expenditure was £7O, so the matter was not serious. Cr. Harris said that the fact of the return of the balance-sheet practical-, ly without, a tag reflected great ere- • dit on the clerk. He moved the adop- - tion of the balance-sheet and a vote of confidence in the clerk. The chairman endorsed the previ-r ous speaker’s remarks; and said that : considering the Council was in its infancy, it reflected great credit on. the clerk. - ' Cr. McLoughlin, seconded the motion, and supported the remarks of the previous speakers. ■ •9n the motion of Cr. Harris, seconded by Cr. McLoughlin, it, was de-? cided to strike .a rate of 1-16th of a~ penny for the Waitakaruru Road - Loan' Cr. Chatfield moved, and Cr. Hare seconded, a special resolution author- ; ising the purchase of Hikutaia f Quarry. This concluded the business of the ; special meeting.
