turua club. GENERAL MEETING. The first general meeting of the Turua Football Club was held in the Turua Buildings on Friday last. Mr Geo. Porteous presided over an attendance of over sixty. The minutes of the annual meeting held on December 18, 1922, were read. The balance-sheet for the previous season, which showed a credit balance of £23 5s Bd, as compared with the balance brought forward of £ll 8s 2d, was read. The following officers for the ensuing season were elected: Patron, Mr R. W. Bagnall; president, Mr JH. Johnstone; chairman, Mr Geo. Porteous; vice-presidents, Messrs D. G. McMillan, S. Williams, J. Jensen, J. Bennett, S. Murray, J. T. Davies, S. Mercer, B. McCowatt, F. Goodsell, F. Stephens, T. White, J. Mules, M. Stevens, C. Ansford, H. C. Luke, V. Cassin, j. E. Green, T. Scott, F. Olsen, H. Magee, W. Chapman, M. Whimp, W. Johnson, G. Spencer, G. Gray, R. Gibbons, K., Grundy, and Dr. Bathgate ; secretary, Mr C. Scott; delegates, Mr G. Porteous and Mr G. Gray; selectors, -Mr, G. Porteous, Mr G. Gray, and Mr J. H. Johnstone; committee, Messrs C. Bedford, R. Gibbons, A. P. Gardiner-, G. Gray, J. Thrupp, V. Cassin, J. H. Johnstone, and the chairman, secretary, and the captains of the teams ex officio; social eommitt.ee, Messrs K. Fox, D. Fox, F. Clotworthy, L. Clotworthy, G. Elvin, H. Robinson, J. Thrupp, and E. Johnstone. It was decided that the captains of the teams be present when the selectors pick the team, but that they have no vote. It was decided that a match between married and single players be held on Saturday, April 7.
The subscription was fixed at ss, and the colours the same as last year, i.e., black and white jerseys and black trousers.
ngatea club.
general meeting. The first general meeting of the Ngatea Football Club was held on Monday last. Mr D. Vincent presided over an attendance of about forty, and announced that, following the custom of previous years, committee meetings and general meetings would be held alternately on Monday evenings. INSURANCE. Letters from insurance companies giving particulars of rates and benefits were read, and it was agreed that members should act on their bwn. TRAINING QUARTERS. After a-little discussion it was left to the committee to arrange for a suitable paddock, and have electric lights installed thereon, so that practices could be held in the evenings. OFFICERS. Mr R. McConnell was elected selector for the senior team. Mr J. Costello was appointed to fill a vacancy on the management committee, and Messrs H. Dent and D,. Waugh were appointed to fill vacancies on the social committee. BENEFITS. As two club members received injuries at. a. practice match it was decided that a coilcert and dance should be held. Arrangements were left to the social committee. It was also arranged that a match. Married v. Single, should be played on Saturday, 3>lst inst., and that the charge for admission should be 2s for gentlemen and Is for ladies. Mr R. H. Jamieson was appointed refereee, and the team selectors were detailed to arrange the teams. MATCH AT NGATEA. The first football match of the season was played at Ngatea on Saturday last between teams representing the Turua and Ngatea schoolboys. Tire teams appeared to be evenly matched, but good play on the part of a Ngatea boy coupled with the speed of a team mate enabled the home team to score three times, one of which was converted. 'Turua scored a try.
