DAIRYING RETURNS.
FIGURES FOR FEBRUARY. 1 , TURNIP FEEDING. For the month of February the 13 butter factories of the N.Z. Co-opera-tive Dairy Co., Ltd., manufactured over 2200 tons of butter. The average grade of this huge quantity at the export store was 92.37. The Ngatea factory sent forward 318 boxes of superfine butter and 21 boxes of first grade.' The average grading figures were 92.74 points. The Paerpa factory sent forward 3277 boxes of superfine, 958 boxes of first grade, and 389 boxes of second grade. The average grading worked out at 91.09 points. These figures, supplied py the head office of the company, give point to the statement that a larger amount of turnip flavoured cream than usual is coming into the Paeroa factory this year. On the Hauraki Plains not so many turnips are fed as'in the districts supplying the local factory. The subject of turnip-flavoured cream has been occupying a good deal of attention lately, and it is emphasised that those who must use turnips should take every care, ,-in the feeding of them to cows. The best practice is to wilt them, for 36 hours, and then feed out only enough to keep the cows occupied for about an hour and a half immediately after milking, after which the cows should have an opportunity of grazing on green feed, such as maize or millet. Ample supplies of green food tend to reduce the bad effect of turnips.
