——« RETAIL PRICES. The monthly “Abstract of Statistics” shows that the index number for the three food groups as at January 15, is 1483, an increase of 4 points as compared with that for the previous month, and an increase of 38.60 per cent, as compared with that for July, 1914. The index number for the groceries group has fallen 32 points, the decrease being due mainly to an all-round fall the prices of onions and potatoes.
The rise of 5.1 points in the dairy products group is said to be due to considerable and all-round increases in the prices of butter and eggs. rise of 18 points has been recorded in the meat group.' Most items have remained practically stationary, the increase being due to a rise in the price of mutton in some Lowns.
