: The advance prices for butter-fat for butter-making for February supply which the Paeroa branch of the N.Z. Dairy Co. is paying out on the 20th inst are as follows: Butter-inak-ing: Superfine, Is 6d; fi"st grade, Is 5%d. Cheese-making, Is 6d. The Supervisor of Manual and Technical Education has advised Mr G. H. Taylor, headmaster of the Paeroa High School, that the enrollments received to date were so few as- to render it impossible to carry out evening classes. Ari angements have been made for Miss Clark to visit, Paeroa on Wednesday afternoons for the purpose of taking adult dressmaking classes. At the meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council on Monday Cr. Hayward siaid that it had been brought to his notice that the Councillors were unanimously in favour of the Thames Harbour scheme, and he would like to have it known that the County Council took up a neutral attitude. Cr. Harris said that the Har* hour Board had never said that the Council was unanimously in favour. Cr. McLaughlin said the Council had never committed itself, as it had never come up for discussion, not being a county matter. Cr Hare said it was generally understood in his riding thajt the Council as a bpdy was in favour of the scheme. Members were of the opinion that the scheme was not a county matter, and the Council should take up a neutral attitude. Returns from the Netherton cheese factory for the month of February are now available. They- show a decrease of 31 crates from the previous month, when 412 crates were shipped. The grade is uniformally good, ranging from 91 to 92. At present 22 cheeses are made daily. At the meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council on Monday construction of the Paeroa-Pokeno Auckland Railways and Development League suggesting that the Council should sustain a ceaseless and determined effort to obtain the early construction of the Paeroa —Pokeno railway. Cr. C. W. Harris, who is the Council’s delegate on the League, proposed that tlie Council give its hearty support to the movement and urge an early construction of the line, which, he considered, was of very great importance to the county. This resolution was seconded by Cr. H. Hare and carried unanimously.
