ENTERTAINMENTS.

CENTRAL THEATRE PICTURES. TO-NIGHT. LULU BETT. © The attraction for to-night is a wTiliam de Mille masterpiece entitled “Lulu Bett,” featuring Lois Wilson, Milton Sills, and Theodore Roberts. It is a story of one of a million homes and the events in that home that were not for neighbours’ ears. A Mack Sennett comedy is also on the programme, also another instalment of “Robinson Crusoe.”

LAURIE’S MUSICAL COMEDY CO.

SPARKLING AND ENJOYABLE. No doubt counter attractions prevented many from attending the Central Theatre last evening. However, those who were present to witness Laurie’s Musical Comedy Company’s initial performance in Paeroa were subjected to a real treat. The show was clean, snappy, and clever from the overture to the fall of the curtain. There was not one dull moment. The costuming of the Buster Ballet was a feature of the show, there being no less than eleven changes of costumes. Miss Muriel Brown, the leader of the ballet, is a dancer ot no mean ability. Her toe dancing was very clever, and her interpretation of the hornpipe was particularly well done, the audience being insistent in their demands for more. Included in the company were some very good voices, and the public were provided with the latest vaudeville entertainment. Generally, the show was a sparkling revue on a lavish scale. The star items in last night’s programme were undoubtedly Les Faulkner’s (tenor) rendering of “Doreen,” “Take a pair of sparkling eyes,” and “The Sheik.” Miss Muriel Brown in the toe dance and hornpipe was repeatedly recalled. The lighter side of the entertainment was provided by Miss Doris Bailey in her song sccna “Sergeant Brown.” Tom Lincoln in “Komicalities” and Dude specialities was warmly received. Billy Evans in his dame impersonations is a very clever actor, and kept the audience well amused. The combination hopes to pay a return visit to Paeroa before returning to Australia.
