MEAT PRODUCERS’ BOARD. The New Zealand Meat Producers Board has just received advice from its London office that salesmen and buyers are unanimous in their approval of the supervision ».>? grading by the Board and agree that very great improvements in grading are already in evidence this season since the supervisors have been appointed The improvement of some works has surprised operators, who state that meat from such works which in previous years had always sold al a. substantial reduction, is this year selling at prices equal to the best. Standardisation of . grading has sinipli fied operations to all concerned. The report goes on to state that the action of the Board in eliminating shipping parcels of mutton or lamb under 30’0 carcases has resulted -in enormous improvements in the conditions under which meat is discharged. and delivered. The number of softened carcases, caused by delay, torn and dirty r wrappers, and bruised carcases caused by excessive handling, have been reduced and the discharge of ships expedited. Regarding beef covers it is pointed out that beef with stockingette covers under hessian opens up bright and and clean, whereas beef by the same steamers with hessian only is grimy and stained. The report concludes :—“ I have watched the discharge of each steamer with New Zealand meat, and there is still much to be done, but the shipping companies and' the port of London authority are anxious to cooperate with the New Zealand -Meat Producers Board to remove these disadvantages.”
