WORKS IN THE BOROUGH

MONTHLY STAT'EMETNS. FOREMAN’S REPORT. At the Borough Council meeting on Thursday last the works foreman, Mr W. Neil, reported as follows: During the past month the work has been in the nature of cleaning drains, repairing and improving footpaths and’other general work. The drains have been cleaned out in Albert, Junction, and Mill Streets. The work on the main street footpath is still in progress. The footpath in Prospect Terrace has been cleaned, screenings put on, and the water channels attended to. The blackberries and gorse in Willoughby Street have been cleared. The contracts for cleaning the Puke and Station road drains have been let, and the work is now in progress. Within the next week I intend to have the grass cut on the footpaths in Station and Thames roads, also to have the road repaired where required. WORKS COMMITTEE’S REPORT. The works committee presented the following report:— During the past month the staff has been engaged on the various works mentioned in the foreman’s report, and regrets that owing to the unsettled weather greater progress has not been made with the work of repairing the main street footpath, but hopes that with more settled weather and a better supply of material to speed up the work during the current month. The roads and footpaths of the Station and Thames roads will, as requested by several councillors, receive the attention of the staff prior to the gatherings on Wednesday and Saturday, March 14 and 17. Two applications for crossings from Messrs E. J. Adlam and J. Bertelsen are before you, and we recommend that they be granted, as suggested by applicants, subject, to the work being carried out to the satisfaction of the works foreman. The Station and Puke road drains have been let by contract, for cleaning, at 5s and 4s per chain respectively, and the work is now in progress.
