monthly meeting. A meeting of the Thames Harbour Board was held at Thames yesterda), there being present Messrs C. W. Har ris (chairman), H. O. Cooper, E. N. Miller, J. W. Da.nby, S. A. Hetherington. D. Donaldson, S. J. Laughlin, and the clerk (Mr N. Gibbs). An apology was received from Mr Coulter, who was prevented' from attending owing to a mishap on the road to his car. TURUA WHARF.
The Turua Ratepayers’ Association wrote asking for information respecting the tonnage over Turua wharf, and the dues collected from passengers and goods, etc., for the past 12 inonths, so that the matter of a peimanent caretaker or wharfinger could be gone into: They suggested that the Board should appoint a permanent man, who would collect all dues. It was decided to supply the information and to receive a deputation at the next meeting. The Northern Steam Ship Co. wrote saying that the.'liglit, at Turua wharf was too low. Mr Harris said that the present light was in the right position, as it lighted the wharf.and was a guide to mariners, and to raise it would affect the lighting of the wharf. Mr Hetherington moved that the letter be referred to the wharfinger at Turua for his opinion. Seconded by Mr Laughlin and carried. The wharfinger at Turua reported the disappearance of the cork jacket from the Turua wharf, and stated that it had probably been put in the river by boys. On several occasions the jacket had been found in the rived moored by a rope. It was decided to replace the jacket and put the matter in the hands of the police. The chairman and several members pointed out’ithe seriousness of interfering with life-saving apparatus, and stated that, the Board intended making an example of the first offender caught. THE ELECTIONS. The Te Aroha Borough Council wrote emphatically protesting against the proposal to hold the loan poll and the election for a representative, on the same date for reasons given by their representative. Mr Miller moved that they be informed that the matter had received mature consideration. Seconded by Mr Donaldson, and carried. SITE FOR EXPLOSIVES. The Nobel Explosives Company wrote asking for a site for an explosive storage depot on Mr Adams’ lease of the Moanatiai'ai tip.—Granted, provided the site was approved by the Board and the Minister of Internal Affairs. BUOYS. The engineer (Mr E. F. Adams) reported that the buoys were not now in tiie correct positions to mark the channels in the harbour, ami pointed out where they should be. It was decided t,o have the buoys shifted to the correct positions. RETURNING OFFICER. The secretary was appointed returning officer for the polls on the loan proposals and the election of representatives. TARARU QUARRY JETTY. Mr Dauby wanted to know whether the interests of the Board in regard to the jetty at Tararu were being watched. Mr Harris explained that the jetty was being built, but permission had not yet been obtained from the Marine Department. Until then the builders were taking all responsibility and risk.
