The inclusion of the question of roading among the matters to be considered by the New Zealand Society jf Civil Engineers during its coference in Auckland was commented upon with satisfaction by the Mayor, Mr J, H. Gunson (states the “Herald”). Referring to the local borrowing policy, Mr Gunson said the authorities in Auckland believed in getting all the money they could for providing good roads, and looked to ratepayers for fullest support when placing a sound policy before them. “We do not believe the time for borrowing has ceased,” he continued, “ for we know that the development of the provincial interests and increased output of primary products determimnes the tone and' temper of financial condi-. tions in the cities, and we are there- ' fore anxious to meet not only local J needs, but the needs of the whole province, feeling that every effort, i should be made to meet our obliga- , tions toward the development of the splendid resources of this young, Do-.. minion.” ■-$!
