CRICKET.
THAMES B.S.A. V. PAEROA. A cricket match was played in the Domain between the above teams on Saturday last, resulting in a win for the local team by 16 runs on the first innings. Shand won the toss, and sent the visitors to the wickets,. They opened cautiously; but the bowling and fielding of the local team were too good, with the result that they were all put for 47. Paeroa followed, but did not fare much better, (mainly due to the good bowling of Gibson), though lasting long enough to top the Thames score, making 64. With a deficit of 16 runs Thames again went to the wickets, this time doing a little better, making 69. Paeroa. commenced their second innings by wanting 54 to win, but owing to the rain play had to be stopped with one wicket down for 7. In criticising the local players credit must be given to Haskell, who bowled extremely well in both innings and finished up with the fine result of 9 wickets for 35 runs, as well as catching two men out. The fielding of the team, on the whole, was better than usual, but still requires sharpening up. The players are prone to take the game casually, there being too much talking on the field,, as well as careless fielding in places. As usual the hatting was weak. The team needs considerable practice in this department of the game. The bowling was fairly good, and kept the opposing batsmen thinking. ScoresTHAMES. First Innings.
