TURUA RESERVE.

QUESTION OF CONTROL. A meeting of the Turua Town Board and delegates from (he Turua Sports Club and the Turua Football Club was held in the Turua Buildings on Wednesday last to discuss control of and improvements to the recreation reserve. Mr J. T. Davies occupied the chair. The position in -regard to the control of tlie recreation deserve is not clear.' The land was required by law to be set aside by Bagnall Bros, as a recreation reserve when their land was' cut up into town sections. The Town Board was under the impression that the land had been made over to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and took steps to form a domain board. Lt. was later found that this had not been donte, as the Commissioner would not accept the title until the roads had been dedicated. Bagnall Bros, took steps to have this done, and in the meantime handed over, control to the Board until such time as it is taken over by the Commissioner of Crown Lands and handed to a domain board. This referred to 7% acres only, but Mr Bagnall .urged the Town Board to take up another 7% acres so as to have the whole block, or to take up the two middle sections fronting Piako RoadIf they did this, he would givte a substantial donation towards the cost of memorial gates. The Town Board had decided to spend the sum of £lO on improving the reserve if the Sports Club and the Football Club would each contribute a similar amount. The two clubs have voted thie ‘money, but the Town* Board is not in a position to do so until the beginning of the next financial year. On the motion of, Mr/ J. Mules, seconded by Mr C. Scott, it was decided that the Tpwn Board should exercise control of the resterve. and that two representatives from each of the bodies—the Sports Club and the Football Club—should be appointed to work in conjunction with the Board. After some discussion on the nature of the iinprovemients required it was decided that Messrs Gardiner and Olsen (Town Board), Gray and Chapman (Sports Club), and Porteous and Slcott (Football Club) should be a committee to ascertain tlie cost of improvements, with power to act. This committee will meet on the ground during the week-end, and' probably let a contract for the work of draining, clearing, and levelling. Appreciation of the prompt and ■energetic actions of. the Town Board were expressed by Messrs Porteous and Gray. • . ■
