NEW MAGAZINES.
The “London” for February marks a, decided improvement in this magazine, the illustrations being particularly good. A special serjes of photographs dealing with the “Glamour if the East” is’ one of the finest thalt we have had the pleasure to review, two or three of the studies being well worth framing. The commencement of a hew romance, and many interesting articles and short stories, places this number well above the average. “My Magazine,” January number, is particularly attractive. It is well gotten up, and; contains a fund of instructive infprmation, as well as numerous coloured and black and white illustrations. It could well be described as’ a magazine for persons of all ages, and should find’ a ready welcome in all homes. , The “Yellow” and “Violet” magazines contain the usual attractive short stories, and make good reading. “Cassell’s Children’s Book of Knowledge,” part 6, which is to be completed in about 48 fortnightly parts, stands alone as a simple educator, a reference book a,nd can be recommended to air parents who desire to see their children fully equipped for the battle of life. It is doubtful if any previous publication 'has ever been so valuable as a child educator. In the February “Aussie” just to hand there are over 70 Australasians artists and writers represented. Russom, the world-famous artist (wlhose work appears regularly in “Aussie”), is' at his best in this issue with a fine full-page picture sounding great depths of reality. G. K. Townshend is also represented, and he strikes the lighter vein, with a heavy woman and a featherweight man as his theme. Ellis Silas who has recently returned from Papua, and who by his public exhibition of paintings of Papuan life and scenery has created sb much interest, continues his “Life in Papua ’’ series in “ Aussie.” Included in the issue is the work of a number of new and promising Australasian artists, being a furtherance of the “Aussie’s” policy of seeking but and encouraging embryo .talent. The literary section includes 1 all the usuftl features, and is strong in genuine humour, true' to the Australasian type. In the woman’s section there is a very useful article on the home manufacture of hand-made flowers. This should interest not Only the fair sex, but also the unfair sex. The whole of “Aussie” is good, and in addition to the leading articles, stagery, etc., there are two pages of really fine reviews of books of the period—a sufficient, feast for any taste. Weldons Bazaar Of Children’s Fashions, February number, gives gratis patterns to make two frocks, blouse, and knicker suit, and sleeping suit. This splendid number contains directions for making a baby’s knitted suit and hat, party frocks, fancy dresses, school clothes for.girls and boys, tiny tots” fashions, styles for grown-up girls, wrap coats, underclothes.
