ELECTRIC POWER.

THE BOARD’S WORK. ENGINEERS’ REPORT. At. the last meeting of the Thames Valley Electric Power Board meeting the engineers (Messrs Gauvain and McLeod) reported as folloyfe on the progress of the work since the last meeting of the board on December 5 : Thames Section. —The 11,000-vok double circuit, transmission line is now completed from Paeroa to Thames, and current',was supplied to the Thames Borough on January 20. A sub-station has been built at Parawai, from which point the borough takes a supply- This station, which liras been arranged to be capable of easy extension, nbw contains two lOOk.v.a. transformers, with the necessary switch gear, protective and measuring apparatus. The high tension .telephone circuit between Thames and the Board’s main office at Te Aroha has been completed and is now in operation. The completion of this line, together with the 1 Waharoa-Waitoa line (whitjh will be referred ,t.o. later), means that the Board has now a continuous line from Thames to Putaruru, via Paeroa, Te Aroha, Waitoa, Waharoa, Matamata, and Okoroire, a total distance of about 77 miles. M’atatoki Section.—This was made alive oh December 16. Lbw tension linet, l and services have been run and connected down Matatoki Road and for about three miles bn the main Road. Puriri —Low tension lines have been run for about two and a half miles on Thames Road, and most of the services have been installed and supply will shortly be given. Rising Sun G.M. Co.—Line construction has been completed, and power was supplied on January 18. Hauraki Plains Section. —The 11,-000-ivolt line is now through, to Ngatea, and power was supplied to the Ngatca factory, where two 50-k.v.a. transformers were installed on January 3. The crossing of the Piako River was effected by installing an 11,000volt submarine cable in the bed of the river. Tn the neighbourhood of Ngatea about. 1% miles of low tension line Us been run pn the main line poles. The low tension line at Kerepeehi was made alive on January 11, to give a supply to the Lands Department workshops, and services are now being run. Huirau and Te Papa Road.—The whole of the work, including 11,000' volt, low tension, and all service wiring, has now been completed, and supply is expected to be given shortly. Fisher’s Road.—The poling of the 11,000-. volt and low tension lines has been completed, and about half the service poles erected. No. 8 Road, Lower Waitoa.—Five miles of line have been poled and wired with a single SSOO-vplt circuitin addition approximately 1% miles of low tension wiping, together with service connections, and four transformer stations have been completed and put into service. On No. 4 Road 1% miles of 3300volt wiring has been erected and a low tension supply given to Manhue Road three-quarters of a mile long. Waharoa-Waitoa Section.—The 11,-000-volt circuit from Waharoa to Waitoa is now completely wired and shackled 'off at' the Waitoa end. The line has hot yet been made alive pending the adjustment of a telephone crossing and ,other, details. McGregor’s Road, Morrinsville. — This road has been poled over its full length, a distance of; 2% miles. The 3300-volt circuit is wired up to the transformer platform situated at a point 1% miles from the main road. Low tension wiring and the erection of service mains is proceeding, and the! line should be put into commission within the next few days.

Walton Section.—The 11,000-voit line between Waharoa, and Walton ■was made alive on December 15. Low tension lines have been run and all services are now connected. Three transformers have been installed on this section. Te Pci Section. —The extension on the Tc Poi-Waiomo road, a distance of about 1% miles, has been poled. About 2% miles of ( 3300-volt line 'has been completed arid made alive, startint; from the Hinuera-Ohoroire corner and running round Taiheu Road. An extension which' was made alive on December 20 'has been run to connect the sawmill. Four transformers have, been erected on this section. Priestly’s Road.—The extension down this road has been completed and services run, and was made alive on January 15. One transformer has been erected. Davis Road.—The 3300>-.volt line has been completed, and the low tension wiring is proceeding. Maungatautari Section'. —All services have been run with the exception of those on Judd’s Road, and poling has now statred on this road. General. —Every endeavour has been made to accelerate service connections, and with this end in view some of the main construction gangs have been engaged on this work. The whole of the construction at present completed in the Waih'ou aTea lias been inspected by the Public Works Department. Plans have been forwarded to the Public Works Department in connection with the inspection of tlie Thames and Hauraki Plains areas. The report was adopted.
