HOSPITAL EXPENDITURE.

THAMES BOARD. NGATEA AND PAEROA. At Wednesday’s Thames Hospital Board meeting some discussion took place regarding capital expenditure as the outcome of a letter from the Department of Health, which aisked that the Board’s capital proposals should be submitted for approval en bloc before March 31. It was stated that the expenditure would not be sp great this' year. The secretary said the diphtheria ward, landing, and other things had now been on the proposals for three years, but nothing had yet been done. The Chairman: I suppose we had better put them on the estimated expenditure again. Mr Brenan asked if there were any urgent works that should be put on. The Chairman: Well, I flhink the maternity home should be gone on with, but it should be done out cf loan money. We do not want to increase the rates. In answer to Mr Brenan the chairman said the £B7oo’ for. the works referred tp in the proposals would be loan money. Mr Brenan: Is it proposed to do anything in connection with the nurses home at Ngatea and Ih'ospital at. Paeroa? The Chairman : We certainly have not considered it yeL j Mr Brenan: I would certainly be in favour of doing it out pf loan money. Mr Brenan moved that the items he had referred to should be put on the estimates. Mr Hall said he hoped the Paeroa people realised that it was through no fault of the Board that the works referred to had not heen gone on with. The motion was carried. Other speakers said it should be made quite clear that the Board was unanimous in desiring to give effect to the works referred to by Mr Brenan. Mr Brenan said it was quite clear that the Board was ready to put the machinery in motion as soon as the Jrustees complied with the requirements. The chairman said .the Court’s ruling should be available within six months'.
