JERSEY BREEDERS.

THAMES VALLEY CLUB. A meeting of the Thames Valley Jersey Breeders’ Club was held on ■ Friday, Mr E. J. Walters presiding. Others present were: Messrs A. Smith, G. Buchanan, T. Morrison, M. Crimmins, B. Veale, K. Dean, J. Reid, and J. Irwin. DONATION TO SHOW. The Hauraki Plains Agricultural and Pastoral Association asked for a. donation towards the forthcoming show. ' It was decided to donate £2 2s. APPOINTING JUDGES. The N.Z. Jersey Cattle Breeders' Association wrote :— “Re future additions to the list of names of judges : In this connection I am instructed to advise you that in accordance with, a resolution carried at the last annual meeting the Council recently adopted the following resolution: ‘That in the future judges may only be approved by the Council, and their names included in the list of names of judges, after they have been nominated by clubs and have demonstrated their ability to act as such to the satisfaction of a board of three examiners appointed for that purpose by the members of the clubs hi their particular districts.' The districts' and examining centres to be as follows: North Auckland, South Auckland, Taranaki, Maiiawatu and Wairarapa conjoined, Nelson, and Tirnaru. In districts where more than one club exists the board of examiners must be elected by co-opera-tion between the members of the different clubs within the particular area. The examining centre to be fixed by the board of examiners for the particular district.” Mr Crimmins said"there were men here good enough to judge. He proposed, therefore, that the names of Messis Walters and Buchanan should be sent down. The' /chairman suggested that, they should; meet some day and have a competition among themselves for educational purposes. If he were a judge he would choose the animal that “filled the eye” and seemed the best all-round beast, judging the other points afterwards. ’ ' Mr B. Veale said fie was satisfied that a man could not successfully judge a bejist on certain points. Mr G. Buchanan said he had been asked to judge at the Te Awamutu show, but had replied that he regretted he could not act, as he was not on the official list. The association would not acknowledge the judging of anyone who was not on the official list . The chairman said Mr Buchanan should have accepted the judging at Te Awamutu, even if only for experience sake. Mr Buchanan said that to do so might have embarrassed the club. He considered that the parent body was right in adopting the rules outlined in the letter. On the motion of Mr Buchanan, seconded by Mr Crimmins, the rules regarding the appointment of judges, as set out in the letter, wer.e approved. It was also decided to forward a reply expressing approval of t'he conditioiis laid down. Mr Morrison moved that the names of the chairman and Messrs Buchanan and Veale be nominated to undergo examination as being desirable additions to the list of judges; and that steps be taken to appoint an examin-ing-board with that end i>n view. Mr Veale seconded the motion, which was carried. , M'r Crimmins' offered to supply lists of points as set out. by Mr Watson. It was suggested that an examination board should be appointed t 6 examine at one of the shows, say, Morriiisville or Cambridge. Mr K. Dean suggested that the names of lexamiaers. should be submitted to the parent body, and moved that the following should be nominated to constitute the board : Messrs F. E. Day (Tamahere), A. E. Missen (Hamilton), and W. J. Hall (Matatoki), with H. Moreland (Hamilton) as a substitute. The motion was seconded by Mr Buchanan and carried. It was decided that the forthcoming Morrinsville show would be a suitable place fat which to hold the examination. The secretary was instructed to communicate with associated clubs on the lines indicated.

PEDIGREES. The chairman said he took a pleasure in collecting pedigrees, and would. be onlj r too willing to give members the copies of any pedigrees they required. The chairman was thanked for his offer. PHOTOGRAPHIC RECORDS. On the suggestion of Mr Buchanan the secretary was authorised to purchase a photo album for the use of the club. A SPRING SALE. Mr Dean suggested that the club should hold a sale in the spring. ; The chairman said it would be a step in the right, direction. Mr Buchanan said a man having one or two bulls might, obtain good prices at. a sale, whereas, even if his hulls. were good, he might get only a small price if he sold them himself. Mr Dean moved, and the chairman seconded, “That the club hold an annual sale of Jersey cattle early in the coming spring—about the end of September.” Mr Reid said he supposed that it any breeders in Hamilton or elsewhere wished to send in cattle fo f the sale they could do so. The Chairman : Oh, yes. s It was decided to write to the Agr.cultural Society asking for the use o* the saleyards for a pedigree sale. Mr Dean’s motion was’ then put to the meeting and carried. The secretary was instructed to advise members that.the details in connection with the proposed sale would be fully discussed at the next meeting.
