ngatea branch. a meeting of the Ngatea branch of the Dairy Farmers" Union was held y S Pterday. In the absence of the president Mr W- G. Hayward was appointed to the chair. There was only a small attendance of farmers, and very little discussion, so a large amount of business was done in a short time. A letter from the head office of the Dairy Farmers’ Union asking for the opinion of the branch on several matters was read. Thie chairman explained the at,lernative proposals. FEDERATION. The N.Z. Farmers’ Union had submitted a draft agreement, and this had been discussed and amended at a meeting pf the Dairy Farmers’ Union executive held in Hamilton on January 11, and in each case the amendments to the draft advocated at that meeting were supported. The amended draft reads :— , (1) That, the N.Z.F.U., D.F.U., and all other organised branches of Agriculture each continue to do its own organisation and manage, its own branches and provincial, organisation(2) That each organisation contribute 5s per member to the Dominion Fund, (3) That the Dominion Conference consist of provincial presidents and two members of each organisation of eacjj province. (4') That the Dominion Executive be an elective body’ composed of one representative from each organisation of the several provincial areas, each representative to be elected by his' own organisation. (5) That the Conference and Executive be called the N.Z .Farmers Union’s Conference and Executive, respectively. Dairy Control. —The meeting was not in favour of control by legislation, but by the mutual consent of a committee consisting of producers, bankers, merchants, and shippers. The Moratorium Act was briefly discussed, but the meeting did not feel Capable of expressing an opinion. Purity of Farm Seeds. —A compulsory test and certificate was advocated. Cull Cows and Bulls.—The meeting was of the opinion that all cows giving less than 1901 b of butter-fat should be classed as culls, and that all scrub bulls should be eliminated in such a manner as to cause no hardship to farmers. Universal Testing.— A national scheme by legislation, thereby making it compulsory, was advocated. Bacon Industry.—nl the opinion c f the meeting this should be controlled by the Meat Board.
