NETHERTON ROADS.
STOPBANK ROAD SUGGESTIONS. A the meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council pn Wednesday It I. Roberts, Paeroa, on behalf of a number of settlers, advised that lie bad consulted with Cr. Hare and the county engineer, and after seeing settlers interested made the following suggestions. They had assumed that the department intended -to undertake and complete the work, and were surprised to hear that the County Council was expected to find £ for £. They realised that, the council was unable to find the money, and as .the settlers were in the same position he suggested that the matter should be placed before tie Minister with an application to convert, the £6oo' subsidy into a straightout grant, the council to expend the money on an approved plan. The settlers would assist the council in the matter of carting, ploughing, and grading to bring work within the amount of the grant,. They urged that something shodld be done before winter made .the road impassable for carting cream. Cr. Hare stated that the engineer and he had visited the place and interviewed the settlers'. Mr Robeits had said that the Minister had promised to; go on with the wojrk if the council had it surveyed. The engineer said he could do the work if the grant for that amount was available. He suggested that a copy of Mr Roberts’ letter should be •sent ,Q) the Minister, together with an application fo:r a straightout gia’iof £6OO. On the motion of Cr. Chatfield, seconded by W. G. Hayward, a motion was carried on the lines indicated. Cr. Hare .suggested that the assistance of Mr Poland sthould, be obtained to have the grant authorised.
