THE SPORTS MEETINGS’. TURUA AND HIKUTAIA. Provided the weather is’ fine, the spirts meetings to be held at Turua to-morrow and at Hikutaia on Monday (Anniversary Day) should attract people from all over the district, as well as frbm other centres. Woodchopping competitions, which are included in the events at both meetings, have a singular attraction for man, woman, and child alike. It is doubtful, in fact, if any other form ctt> competitions is so generally enjoyed, and though they have disappeared from many centres —generally owing to the. difficulty in obtaining suitable blocks —they undoubtedly foi'm an attractive feature wherever held. Both the meetings referred to are providing a varied programme of events, while the secretaries .are determined to make the outings pleasant for all.
