POSTAL DEPARTMENT.
THE NEW RATES. OPERATE FROM FEBRUARY. The Postmaster (Mr j. G. Me Dougall) has been advised that from February 1 the inland postage arid telegram rates will be as follow:— Letters.—l%d. Postcards. —Single Id, reply 2d. Packets. —One penny for first 2oz, I%'d over 2oz up to 4oz, l%d each additional 4oz up to lib; 2d each additional pound up to 51b. Newspapers.—%d each. Telegrams, ordinary.—Ninepencefor 12 words, with Id for each additional word. Telegrams, urgent.—Double ordinary rates. Night letter telegrams.—Ninepence tor 27 words and Id for each additional three words or fraction thereof. Initial letter rate to British possessions, United States of America, and all other places .to which postal union rates do not apply will be reduced to l%d.
