(Own Correspondent.) THROWN FROM A HORSE. When leaving ihis home on Tuesday forenoon the horse which Mr Hugh L. Morrison was riding got- its foot in a hole, and, falling, threw its ridci; to the ground with some considerable force. Falling on bis left, shoulder, the whole arm was so affected that it was put out of/ action. To make worse, the horse, while getting up, put two of its hoofs on Mr Mdrrisoii’s back, thus adding a couple of nasty bruises to the injuries already received. • HAY-MAKING. The work of hay-making this year has been greatly retarded by the inclement weather, so much so that many crops had to be stacked 01 put into the barns when wet. Those who -did no.t harvest during the holidays are congratulating themselves on saving their hay ; but, 'judging by the prevalent weather conditions, such •self-congratulations appear to be somewhat premature. JThis is unfortunate, as the crops were, and are, unusually good, some fields in which, the red clover is bp,th plentiful and luxurious x- presenting a beautiful sight. / TENNIS. The newly laid out tennis courts are being extensively made use of, K the ground from morning to night being taken advantages of by enthusiastic players. The courts are fast, and play well, but can be, considerably improved by judicious rolling and sweeping. HOLIDAYS. With the departure of visitors and the return of residents who spent the holidays away from home, things are becoming normal, and by the begin- / ning of next week will see t;he resumption of the usual routine. ROADS. The Hikutaia-Thames road is in a badly corrugated state, and, to use the mildest term, the remarks of motorists are not at all complimen, tary to .the powers that be. The result is that a large amount of local business that used to go to Thames now goes to Paeroa, the wear and • tear on tyres and the breaking of ■springs rendering that road one to be avoided.
