A man named Thomas Henry Tucker appeared on remand at the Thames Police Court on Saturday, before Mr W. H. Lucas, J.P., charged with having committed an unnatural offence at Paeroa, and was further remander to appear at Paeroa.
From statistics; contained in the NZ. Official Year-book for 1923 the borough of Paeroa is shown as having a capital value, including land and improvements', of £389,035, while the unimproved value of land is, given as £191,999.
The following rainfall figures have been supplied by the local office o F the Public Works Department for the month of December, 1.922 : Rain, fell on 16 days during the month, the heaviest fall’ being on 'the 23'rd, when 2.76 inches was recorded. The total rainfall for December was 6.48 inches, as against. 2-18 inches for the corresponding month last year. The tptai ••ainfall far 1922, as registered, was 48.45 inches.
Despite the showery .weather that lias been experienced during tihe last, week farmers all over the Hauraki Plains are haymaking. A light crop of hay will often dry sufficiently in a day after a shower of rain, but this year the’-e is an exceptionally heavy crop, and, despite the favourable •wind, it hardly seems possible tha.r the hay is in a fit state to stack. Farmers seem more willing to take the risk of spontaneous combustion than the chancel of the hay being spoilt if stacking is' delayed.
