NGATEA. HALL COMMITTEE. | A meeting of the Ngatea Hall Committee was held last Thursday evening, the following attending: Messrs G T. Davidson (chairman), W. G. Haywai’d, W. J. Clare, S. Phillips, D. A. Vincent, R. E. Jamieson, and,CMellor (secretary). Mr Hallyburton Johnstone attended by request. Mr Vincent said that the insurance company would require a fireproof floor, and two fire extinguishers would also have to be stored there. It was left with Mr. Clare to have the necessary improvements made to the picture box. The secretary announced that the gross takings at the recent bazaar were £145 13s ll%d. T.he expenses ■were £65 8s Bd. It was- decided to extend to the ladies, and all those who the committee’s appreciation and sincere thanks for adding such a laTge amount to the hall funds. The chairman, in moving tile motion, though* they had done splendidly, considering the times they had just passed through. THE HALL PIANO. ! Mr Johnstone, speaking in regard to the hall piano, at last night’s Ha 1 Committee meeting said that in the early days Mr Bratlie’s piano had, to be borrowed for functions in -the hall. He (Mr Johnstone) said that he had bought a piano for £56 or £55, and L had been agreed that -he should receive £45 for it. He had received, one amount of £2O, and had never got any
more. , . „ Mr Hayward said that Mr Johnstone had not given the hall trustees the cost of the None of the had known of -the price of the piano. The chairman said there were no records regarding the piano. Mr Johnstone said they all knew that they owed him the money, but did not want to remember it. Mr Johnstone was asked What be would take for hte piano. Mr Johnstone said he would take 7% per cent, on seven years on £25. The money would go to the n\enrorial fund. . . + Mr Hayward said he would object to Mr Johnstone’s conditions. Seven and a half per cent, was ridiculousMr Johnstone said later that ne would, take £35. The chairnian said that evidently something was owing to Mr Johnstone for the piano. Mr Clare moved that Mr Johnstone be offered £35. Mr Jamieson seconded, and the motion was carried' unanimously. KEREPEEHI. VALEDICTORY. A large number of local residents attended a social evening at the Kerepeehi Ha 1 ! on Tuesday evening, the occasion pf a farewell to Mr J. Twist, headmaster of the local school, and Mrs Twist.
Mr Jamieson, on behalf, pf the tennis and sports clubs, the school committee, and the public generally, expressed regiret at losing such, a public spirited man as Mr Twist..Mr and Mrs Twist were popular among the local residents’, and. they would be
greatly missed. He then handed. Mr Twist a substantial cheque, as' a token of esteem and ap appreciation of their serivces in the community. Items .were .rendered by Mrs Frecklington, Mr and Mrs Twist, and Mr ' Booth, Miss Phyllis Frecklingtpn was loud Sly applauded for , a pianoforte solo. The dance music was'rendered , > by the local orchestra. SUNDAY SCHOOL PRIZES. Th© Kerepeehi Sunday School children received tlieir annual prizes lastSunday, when the Rev. W. J. Enticott attended and addressed the children. .
