WAITAKARURU. THE LAUNCH SERVICE. I Since the cessation of the tri- ' weekly Thames-Waitakaruru launch service, the local Branch; of the Fapm- ! ers’ Union ha,s been endeavouring to J inaugurate a daily service on the run and also a service from Auckland to Waitakaruru. The president of the branch, Mr C. W. Harris, stated to a “ Gazette ” reporter this week that they were in communication with one launch owner, who may possibly take on both services. If complete arrangements can be made, the service will most likely commence within a fortnight. VALEDICTORY. A smoke concert to farewell Mr A•Christie was held at Patetonga recently, Mr J. Patterson presiding over a large attendance of friends. Mr, Christie was one of the first settlers to take up a Crown section in Patetonga, and by hard work and perseverance lie has, with his brother, succeeded in making the holding one of the best farms in the district. Mr Christie is leaving Patetonga to take up a section near Auckland. On behalf of his many friends, Mr Patterson presented Mr Christie with a Gillette safety razor, and wished him every success in his new home, EEBEPEEHI. SOCIAL. A very successful social organised by Mr Ward and held in the Kerepeehi hall on Thursday of last week was’ very well attended. Great interest was shown in the screening of the election result -as they came to hand from the post office. The results were obtained up till 12.30. Apart from the election results, dancing was the main portion of the programme, the music being supplied by the local orchestras. A' light supper was provided. PERSONAL. Mr J. W. Harvey, from' the collector of taxes' office, Auckland, was in the Kerepeehi district during the’ weekend and returned home on TURUA. POST OFFICE EXPANSION. The business transacted at the Turua post office has increased to such an extent.that it now warrants the installation of a morse .apparatus. As this will necessitate the supervision of a postmaster, Miss Melsop (the present postmistress) is being transferred to another office. Mr Roberts will be Turua’s postmaster.
